Wall console in the Yellow Cabinet, 1873
The three following rooms relate to each other in the shape of their floor plans: two small, semicircular cabinets frame the oval Audience Chamber.
The first room is dominated by yellow wall coverings and ornamental panels. Only this cabinet has carved, stuccoed, and embroidered ornaments in silver. The remaining surfaces are light blue, creating a cool, elegant trio of colors.
The delicate depictions in the concavity of the ceiling show allegories of the four parts of the world, the four elements, and the signs of the zodiac. The oval pastels portray prominent personalities at the court of Versailles.
